Set up Discord
Right-click a message in Discord, choose Apps → Sort into Pragma, and Pragma reads that one message and proposes what to do about it. The suggestions come back as a reply only you can see.
Pragma does not read your servers. It has no message-history access and asks a server for no permissions at all — every word it says travels back on the token your own gesture handed it.
Rolling out
The Discord app is ready. Its buttons in Settings → Chat apps are rolling out organization by organization — Slack's are there today. Write to contact@pragma.pm to be switched on.
1. Link your Discord account (every member)
This is the step that matters, and it is the one every member does for themselves. Pragma applies nothing until it can name the person who pressed the button — never the account of whoever installed the app.
In Pragma, go to Settings → Chat apps and link your Discord account. Discord asks for one scope, identify: it says who you are and nothing else. Your email address is not requested, and neither is the list of servers you are in.
One link covers everywhere. A Discord user id is global, so linking once makes the command work in every server you are in and in direct messages — including a server you joined this morning.
2. Add Pragma to a server (optional, organization owner)
A linked member can use Sort into Pragma anywhere without this. What installing into a server buys is that the server means an organization: a gesture made there files into that server's organization with nothing asked, whichever other organizations the member also belongs to.
From Settings → Chat apps, start the install and pick the server. Discord asks for the application commands and a bot user, with zero server permissions. Start it from Pragma rather than from Discord's own directory: an install begun on Discord's side arrives with nothing that says which Pragma organization the server belongs to, and is refused.
Which organization a message files into
Pragma never guesses. In order:
- The server, if Pragma is installed in it.
- Your own recorded choice, from the last time you were asked — and your membership is re-checked, not trusted.
- Your only organization, if you belong to exactly one.
- Otherwise you are asked, right there, with a menu of the organizations you belong to. The answer is remembered, so it is asked once.
Step 4 is why a direct message works at all: a DM names no server, so something else has to say where the message belongs.
Sorting a message
- Right-click the message (tap and hold on mobile) → Apps → Sort into Pragma.
- Pragma replies that it is reading the message — visible to you only.
- The reply becomes a card with up to four suggestions, each with Apply and Dismiss, plus Open in Pragma for the full set.
Four rather than Slack's five is Discord's own layout: a message carries five rows of buttons, and the last is spent on the link.
Applying runs under your Pragma account, with your permissions and your name in the history. Sorting normally takes seconds; Pragma waits up to two minutes before giving up on showing you a card, and the message is captured either way — it is in Emails to review.
When something is refused
Nothing is captured in any of these cases.
| What Discord tells you | What to do |
|---|---|
| Link your Discord account to Pragma first | Run step 1. |
| Your Pragma account is linked, but it is not a member of the organization this server belongs to | Ask an administrator in that organization to invite you. |
| Your Pragma account does not belong to any organization yet | Join or create one in Pragma first. |
| Pragma could not tell who wrote that message | Pragma refuses to file a message under the wrong sender. |
| A colleague already sent this message to Pragma | The message is theirs to sort. Ask them, or point at a different one. |
| This organization's Pragma plan does not include sorting messages | See getting access. |
| The application did not respond | Discord's own three-second timeout. Nothing was captured; run the command again. |
Removing it
- Your own account: Settings → Chat apps → Remove on the row. The command will ask you to link again.
- The server: Settings → Chat apps → Remove on the installation, or remove Pragma from the server in Discord — either way the binding is gone and gestures in that server fall back to your own recorded choice. Everything already captured is untouched.
